The Tennessee Registers Association is morning
the loss of a longtime friend and fellow Register
- Lawrence County Register of Deeds,
Teresa Dunkin, passed away Sunday evening.

She was a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother
and a special friend to all of us.
She will be greatly missed.

Teresa Peters Dunkin was born in Lawrenceburg,
TN on June 30, 1958 and passed away on
October 20, 2019 at the Sarah Cannon Cancer
Center in Nashville, TN, after an extended illness.
She was the daughter of Richard Peters of
Lawrenceburg and the late Lou Ann Smith
also of Lawrenceburg.

Teresa attended Lawrence County schools,
graduating from LCHS in 1976, later attending
college at The University of North Alabama.

Teresa was married for 41 years to Marty Dunkin of Lawrenceburg. They have two amazing sons, Luke Dunkin (Marissa) and Blake Dunkin (Emily), both of Lawrenceburg. She is also survived by seven fabulous grandchildren Hudson, Ryder, Carlie, Abby, Harper, Charlie and Weston. Also surviving is one brother, Eric Peters of Dothan, AL; one sister, Phyllis Dial of Lawrenceburg, TN; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Teresa was the Lawrence County Register of Deeds for the past 23 years and served in the office for the past 31 years. She served on many boards and charitable organizations with her favorites always being those that dealt with the welfare of children. She was quick witted with a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to all those she encountered.

Teresa had a passion for butterflies. She spent many hours in the garden with Marty preparing the flowers for their arrival. Her grandchildren were the source of her truest joy. Only to be followed by her love for the beach and getting to see her beloved “Blue Angels”. It was her most happiest of places and she wanted to spend time there as often as possible.

“How does one become a butterfly? ‘Pooh asked pensively. ‘You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar, ‘Piglet replied. ‘You mean to die?’ asked Pooh. ‘Yes and no,’ he answered. ‘What looks like you will die, but what’s really you will live on.” -A.A. Milne
