Annie Laura Douglas Jennings, age 77, passed from this life on Monday, November 23. She served many years as Lauderdale County Register. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 PM Tuesday at Ripley First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be 10 AM Wednesday, November 25 at the church with burial to follow in Ripley Memorial Gardens. Garner Funeral Home of Ripley has charge of the services.

A long time member of Ripley First United Methodist Church, she served on many committees and in many positions, founding such programs as Martha’s Cupboard and Lunch With Us, both of which provided meals to others. She also founded and hosted Mustard Seeds, a support group for cancer survivors, along with serving as memorials chairman for Lauderdale County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

She was dedicated to the women of Grace Place, a United Methodist Church inside the walls of the Mark Luttrell Prison for Women in Shelby County where she attended services often and was unconditionally supportive of the women there.

She is survived by her children, A. L. (Al) Jennings III (Tina) of Germantown; Melinda Pilcher (Kenny) of Ripley, and Emily Elkins of Collierville; grandchildren Kristina and Lee Jennings, Sara and Paul Pilcher, and Sam Elkins; brothers Larry Douglas, James G. Douglas and Richard Douglas, all of Ripley, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.L.(Leland) Jennings,Jr.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Douglas; and a brother, William (B.B.) Douglas.
